What does it mean to be saved?

Romans 10:9  “If you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

It starts with believing that God is a holy God and he has a standard by which we are expected to live by. No matter how many good deeds we do, you and I have not and can not meet those standards. Whether we have lied, cheated or stolen we have committed a sin. The Bible says that all of us have sinned.  Sin separates us from a holy God and because of this; we are in danger of incurring his judgment.  The punishment for sin is eternal separation from Him. This is the bad news.

The good news is that God loves us so much that sent his only Son into the world to take the punishment of sin for us.  Jesus, who was fully God and fully man, lived a perfect life. Jesus willingly gave up his life and died in our place. The judgment that was meant for us was placed on him. Through his death we have access to God,  receive forgiveness of our sins and eternal life.  Not only did Jesus die but he rose from the dead on the third day demonstrating that He was indeed God.   If you admit that you have not met God’s standards, turn away from your old ways and put your faith and trust in Jesus then you will be saved.
